Metal Lighting: The Material That Never Goes Out of Style

If wood is the warm, forgiving choice, metal is the one that does the talking. It's precise, it's architectural, and unlike a lot of design trends, it's never really left. What's changed is how it's used — the current wave of metal lighting leans toward thin profiles, matte finishes, and sculptural shapes rather than the heavy brass chandeliers of decades past.

Why Designers Keep Coming Back to Metal

Metal fixtures do something wood and fabric can't: they hold a razor-thin line. A pendant arm, a sconce bar, a spiral floor lamp — metal lets a designer draw with light in a way that feels almost architectural. It also takes finish exceptionally well, from deep matte black to warm brushed gold, which is why a single silhouette can work in a dozen different color palettes.

Where to Start

Wall Sconces

Metal sconces are where the material's precision really shows. Our BEC sconce uses an articulated iron arm inspired by old workshop lamps — functional and a little theatrical at the same time. For something quieter, the LUSIA sconce reduces the whole fixture to a single vertical line of light, in matte black or brushed gold.

Outdoor Fixtures

Metal's durability makes it the default choice outdoors. Our SIRIUS wall sconce is IP65-rated and throws light both up and down along a façade — treated aluminum that shrugs off rain and UV without losing its finish.

Statement Pieces

Metal is also where lighting gets sculptural. A spiral floor lamp, a hexagon-module chandelier, a wavy LED pendant — these pieces use metal's structural strength to hold shapes that wood or glass simply can't.

Pairing Metal With Other Materials

The trick with metal is restraint elsewhere in the room. One striking metal fixture reads as a design choice; three competing metal pieces in the same space start to feel like a showroom. Pair a bold metal pendant with soft textiles and a wood side table, and let the metal be the one hard edge in an otherwise warm room.
